Tamale Festival is May 5

The New Mexico Tamale Festival will be 6 p.m.-midnight, Friday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 S. Main St. downtown.

The event will include Satisfied in concert, mariachi and ballet folklorico dancers, a night mercado, a beer garden and more than 15 different kinds of tamales, event organizers PartyTendersInc said in a news release. There also will be dancing, games and a car, truck and bike show (6-9 p.m.). And, you can vote for your favorite tamale.

Tickets are $25 and are available at thetamalefest.eventbrite.com. Tickets are $30 at the gate.

There will be an afterparty at Rad Retrocade across from the plaza, midnight-2 a.m.

El Paso comedian Jerry Karnes is the master of ceremonies. He has been featured on the Fox TV series “The Cleaning Lady.”
