'Thorns & Trees: Art Quilts by 4 Common Corners' opens at the Branigan Cultural Center

The Branigan Cultural Center is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, Thorns & Trees: Art Quilts by 4 Common Corners. For this compilation, members of the quilting group 4 Common Corners used the natural environment as their theme by bringing attention to the animals and vegetation of New Mexico and surrounding states. Thorns and Trees is on view April 16–June 18, 2022

Thorns and Trees is a collection of twenty-six art quilts that interpret the diverse creatures, plants, and landscapes of the four corners area. By focusing on the natural environment, the participating art quilters were allowed to widely interpret the sharp thorns, stinging creatures, and other spikey adaptations found in the Chihuahua desert into their own distinct works of fabric art. They continued this broad interpretation to include native trees and their inherent wisdom as they thrive despite increasing climate challenges.

The museum is located at 501 N. Main St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. There is no admission fee. The museum is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1. For additional information, visit the website at https://www.las-cruces.org/Museums or call (575)541-2154.
