Two Las Cruces students, Gomez, Acosta snag Comcast scholarships

Posted

Two Las Cruces students are among 13 statewide who have been granted Comcast NBCUniversal scholarships for the 2020-2021 school year.

Adrian Gomez attended Arrowhead Park Early College High School, and Celia Acosta attended Las Cruces High School.

Students are selected for their outstanding community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Each $2,500 scholarship is for undergraduate education-related expenses.

“We are honored to recognize the amazing achievements of our scholarship winners and to help them further their education,” said Chris Dunkeson, Comcast New Mexico vice president. “They are top achievers in academics, leaders in the community and leaders among their peers. They represent our future, and Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to support them.”

In addition to Gomez and Acosta, scholarships were awarded to six students in Albuquerque and one each in Deming, Farmington, Gallup, Las Vegas and Santa Fe.

“Receiving this scholarship allows me to not only further my education, but aids me in the pursuit toward it. It means that my leadership is being recognized and will encourage me to continue to lead others towards their successes, as well,” Acosta said.

Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must demonstrate academic excellence, commitment to community service and outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership, according to a press release.
