Stressing about where to take your beloved for a romantic Valentine’s date? The theater is always a stellar option, and there are three options to choose from.

  • “The Last Five Years,” 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Isabel M. Crouch Readers Theater on the NMSU campus, presented by Blank Conversations Theatre Company of Las Cruces. The musical was written by Jason Robert Brown and was inspired by his failed marriage. It takes place in New York and tells the story of Jamie, an up-and-coming author, and Cathy, an aspiring actress, as they reflect on their five-year relationship, telling the story from opposite ends. Cathy tells her story from the end to the beginning, while Jamie tells his story from the beginning to the end. The cast includes Gus Sanchez, Peyton Womble and Ben Muckenthaler. The show is directed by Matthew Esqueda, who is making his directorial debut. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at blankconversations.org/store or at the door. For more information, email blankconversationsco@gmail.com. Visit blankconversations.org.
  • Doña Ana Repertory Theatre (DART) will perform Moliere's “Tartuffe” Friday-Sunday, Feb. 14, 15 and 16 at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St., downtown. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15 and at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16. The cost for each performance is $15. “Tartuffe is a 17th century neoclassical comedy about a prominent citizen (Orgon) who has taken a conman/holy man (Tartuffe) into his home,” said Joseph Lopez, who is directing the play and is a co-founder of DART. “Orgon's family knows Tartuffe is a fraud, but cannot shake Orgon's fanatical devotion to his new prophet. What more could you ask for in a date night?” The cast includes Teddy Aspen-Sanchez as Tartuffe, Edward Santiago as Orgon, Gail Wheeler as Madame Parnell, Natasha Sanchez as Elmire, Alyssa Gose as Dorine, Jazmin Buchman-Martinez as Mariane, Collin Duffey as Damis, Kerrigan Sivils as Valere and Parker Murphy as Cleante.
