Velo Cruces, Inc., a nonprofit promoting the use of bicycles for commuting and recreation, will host the first annual Bicycle Murals and More Contest during the month of October, Velo Cruces said in a news release.
Contestants in the contest may bicycle to local murals and other public art and fill out a bicycle bingo card by identifying the location of the mural or public art in each square, the news release said. Contestants will then submit their bingo cards for random drawings to win one of three prizes for each part of the three-part event.
Money raised during the contest will help Velo Cruces continue its mission to transform Las Cruces into a great bicycle and pedestrian community, the news release said. Registration fees will fund Velo Cruces, operations of The HUB Community Bike Shop and support the Every Body Rides with Grace adaptive cycle donation program.
The HUB has been affected by Covid-19 restrictions and currently is offering bike repair services from volunteers at low cost. The HUB accepts bicycle donations and sells restored bikes to support the shop and also has a program to donate bicycles to veterans, homeless and other community members with limited financial means.
Every Body Rides with Grace identifies children with disabilities who can benefit from riding adaptive bikes. The first adaptive cycle was recently awarded and at least five more awards are planned.
Contest sponsors are Outdoor Adventures and Visit Las Cruces.
Early registration for the contest is underway and continues throughout September, the news release said.
Registration is $25 through Oct. 7 and goes up to $30 on Oct. 8.
You can continue to register through Oct. 31.
