Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) and the Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District (ACD) Coordinating Council are bringing “Ventanas Vistas” to downtown Las Cruces for its second year.
The program gives artists the opportunity to create pop-up window murals on businesses within downtown and within the ACD to “create the warmth and holiday feel we all need this year,” DLCP Executive Director Jenifer L. Garcia Kozlowski said in a news release. “We see Ventanas Vivas as a safe, fun, socially distanced way for families and friends to experience art, enjoy the holidays and visit their favorite downtown shops and restaurants.”
Kozlowski said the program wants to use downtown business windows “as a showcase for a pop-up window mural.” Either DLCP and the ACD council can select the artists and provide supplies and instructions or businesses can hire their own artists and decorates their own windows, she said.
The program will begin Tuesday, Nov. 10, with artwork to be complete by Friday, Nov. 27 in preparation for the Small Business Saturday event the next day, Nov. 28.
As part of the Small Business Saturday shop local event, artists and participating merchants will be entered in a juried contest, Kozlowski said. At the same time, DLCP will encourage people to come downtown to play Ventanas Vivas Bingo and use the hashtags #DLCP #VentanasVivas #ShopSmall #SmallBusinessSaturday. Winning artists and bingo winners will receive downtown gift certificates.
