VILLAGE OF DOÑA ANA

Village of Doña Ana receives $36,500 beautification grant

T-Mobile officials were in the Village of Doña Ana Saturday, Sept. 24, to award a grant of more than $36,500 to help beautify the historic Doña Ana plaza with the addition of benches and trash receptacles, T-Mobile said in a news release.

Attendees at the presentation included former state Sen. Mary Jane Garcia, who lives in the village, and current state Sen. Jeff Steinborn and state Rep. Nathan Small, both D-Doña Ana.

“Over 12 years ago I was able to secure capital outlay funds from the New Mexico State Legislature to build sidewalks, a gazebo and add lighting to the historic Doña Ana Plaza,” Garcia said. “The T-Mobile Hometown grant will finally complete the Doña Ana Plaza project by allowing the Doña Ana Village Historic Preservation Committee to purchase benches and trash receptacles for the historic plaza.”

“Congratulations to the Doña Ana Village Historic Preservation Committee for working to secure this important funding and infrastructure for the Village of Doña Ana, and many thanks to T-Mobile for providing this grant,” Steinborn said in the T-Mobile news release. “This funding will provide needed resources to the Village to further the quality of life for area residents, and visitation to this historic community.”

The award is part of T-Mobile’s Hometown Grants program, as the communications subsidiary invests more than $1 million in 25 communities around the country to help “jumpstart vital community development projects,” T-Mobile said. Since the start of the program, T-Mobile said it has awarded more than $5.5 million to 125 community development projects in 37 states.
