Virtual retreat addresses cancer in New Mexico

Posted

Cancer Services of New Mexico (CSNM) has announced that adult cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, family members and friends are invited to participate in virtual family cancer retreat.

The event is an online version of a nationally recognized program that launched in 2002 and has since become the largest cancer education program in New Mexico and the largest program of its type in the nation.

The Oct. 24-25 program will be a live broadcast via Zoom. Retreat participants will attend online lectures (webinars) featuring more than 35 of New Mexico’s leading cancer specialists covering a variety of topics and panel discussions.

During informal lunchtime sessions, participants also will have the opportunity to spend time speaking with and learning from others who are coping with similar issues.

The program is underwritten by grants and contributions from many supporters, including New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department, New Mexico Department of Health, Ethicon, Exelixis, Pharmacyclics, UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ipsen, Servier Pharmaceuticals, Southwest Women’s Oncology, The Richdale Charitable Foundation, Santa Fe Community Foundation, Elekta, Miller Family Foundation, The Printer’s Press and individuals supporting the CSNM “Sponsor a Family” program.

Formed in 2001, CSNM is an independent, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that provides services to reduce cancer suffering for New Mexican families.

“We work closely with other cancer services providers to ensure coordination and avoid duplication of effort,” said CSNM President Kathleen Kreider. “We are the only statewide non-profit organization that looks broadly at addressing gaps in cancer-related services while maintaining a 100 percent focus on New Mexico.”

There is no charge to participate in the retreat, but registration is required. To register and learn more about the retreat, visit www.CancerServicesNM.org or contact Janet Cook at 505-288-0331.
