DRESS THE CHILD OF LAS CRUCES

Volunteers needed for Dress the Child shopping events

Posted

The Dress the Child of Las Cruces program needs volunteers to help local children shop for new clothes and shoes during three shopping events coming up in Las Cruces.

The shopping events are

  • 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13: Old Navy, 2200 E. Lohman Ave.; shopping with 125 Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) students; volunteer check-in at Old Navy: 4:30 p.m.
  • 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20: Old Navy, 2200 E. Lohman Ave.; shopping with 125 Gadsden Independent School District (GISD) students; volunteer check-in at Old Navy: 4:30 p.m.
  • 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4: Kohl’s; 2500 N. Triviz Drive; shopping with 200 LCPS and GISD students; volunteer check-in at Kohl’s: 4:30 p.m. Because this event includes more students, it may start earlier.

Dress the Child, which is sponsored by the Rio Grande Rotary Club Foundation, began in Las Cruces in 1984. It has raised funds and bought new clothes and shoes for LCPS and GISD students every year since then, with the school districts selecting the students most in need. Most participating students have never had new clothes or shoes before. Volunteers assist the students and a parent in picking out their new clothes. Each student usually has $100-$130 to spend.
