Vote Hamblen

To the editor:

While I respect Senator Mary Kay Papen’s service as a legislator, I intend to vote for Carrie Hamblen in the Democratic Primary.

For nearly three decades, Carrie has been an effective advocate for issues important to Democratic voters: helping establish early domestic-partner benefit policies at New Mexico State University and the City of Las Cruces, serving as CEO of the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce, and playing a leadership role in the establishment of the Organ Mountains/Desert Peaks National Monument.  

She is well-known to small business owners and nonprofits throughout the region as someone who will show up and be counted on their behalf. She will safeguard women’s reproductive health, reduce state’s dependence on oil and gas, and protect our air, land and water throughout the state. 

I’m excited by the leadership shown by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, and I want a senator who will work cooperatively with her to address climate change, fund early childhood education and deepen our appreciation for the working people of our state.  

Carrie Hamblen has what it takes to be that kind of senator, and she deserves our vote in the Democratic Primary.
