LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Vote Hamblen

Posted

We consider Carrie Hamblen one of our local heroes and wish we could vote for her for senator in District 38. When we moved to Las Cruces, we were happy to find KRWG Radio and TV. When we listened to KRWG, the welcoming voice on the other side of the microphone was Carrie’s.

Several years afterward, we met Carrie at a public event and immediately felt we had a new friend. We watched her transition from an all-around KRWG personality to a community personality. She became an unstoppable force for good in Doña Ana County.

In 2012, Carrie became CEO/President of the Green Chamber of Commerce. Carrie also serves as Board President of the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope, which focuses on providing shelter for individuals who are homeless or near homeless.
Carrie’s vision is boundless. Her intelligence and work ethic are obvious.

The long-time (18 years!) incumbent senator in District 38 has represented some of her constituents but forgotten others. It is on record that she voted against Senate Bill 76, outlawing coyote-killing contests. There was outrage against that vote.

Another example concerns House Bill 51, which would have repealed a 1969 law that state courts have already ruled is unconstitutional and, under Roe v. Wade, is unenforceable. Voters were surprised that Senator Papen voted against its repeal.

It is time for New Mexico to be served by a candidate with a clearer vision of its future. This is 2020. Our state budget depends on oil and gas revenues and is facing the real threat of recession during a pandemic.

Now is a critical time for change, for an energetic, creative person to serve District 38. Cast your vote for Carrie Hamblen for state senator, District 38.
