LAS CRUCES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

William H. Macy coming for film festival

Las Cruces International Film Festival (LCIFF) director Ross Marks is on a roll and well into the pulling together stage for the 2022 event coming up in March.

“First and foremost, we are going to be live and in person (hopefully),” Marks said. “Last year, we had it online and it went really well but for me as a film fan, film buff and filmmaker, the way movies should be seen in is on the big screen.”

So, Marks wanted to find someone who has a great body of work to highlight the 2022 LCIFF and who better to set his sights on than “Fargo” and “Shameless” actor William H. Macy. Marks approached Macy and received a resounding “yes.”

At the festival, Macy is to receive the “Outstanding Achievement in Entertainment” award and will be on hand to accept it. On March 3, he will screen his Academy Award-winning film “Fargo” at the Allen Theatres Cineport at 7 p.m. and host a question-and-answer session with the audience. Earlier that afternoon, Macy will speak at New Mexico State University about his long and esteemed career. After the screening, at the LCIFF VIP Party at Amador Bar & Grill he  will receive his award.

“Macy is the working man’s actor, a blue-collar actor and Las Cruces is a working man’s town,” Marks said. “I felt he was a really good fit. It’s a real tribute to the film festival. We have had a great lineup in the past and it’s a great opportunity to get Bill to come and celebrate film with us.”

Marks said he thinks the March event will be the biggest and best yet.

“I think people are looking to celebrate each other and being together,” he said.

For more information, contact Marks at rossm@nmsu.edu, or 575-646-6149. All guests should comply with the current Covid-19 New Mexico Public Health Order and wear a mask or face covering at the event unless eating or drinking in the theater.
