Posted

Several winners have been chosen for their submission to the Doña Ana Community College (DACC) online art contest.

The contest, put on by the DACC Cultural Diversity Committee, was an online art event facilitated through Instagram where winners were chosen by most “likes.” Winners, honorable mentions and the community choice award winner received either a laptop, headphones or an iPad. Both full-time and part-time students were eligible to participate. Winners are as listed:

  • 1st place – Nehemiah Robinson, Under the Sun
  • 2nd place – Damian Dupree, Coyotes and Mountains
  • 3rd place – Mia Sanchez, Chill & Vibe
  • Honorable mention – Marta Rocha, Külia I ka nu’u (She lives aloha)
  • Honorable mention – Jordan Martin, Out (They/Them)
  • Community Choice award – Jazmin Laguna, Find the Cure

The contest ran from October 27th to November 6th. The contest theme, “Transformations” garnered more than 45 submissions and 1,000 likes. The purpose of the contest allows DACC students the opportunity to share their incredible talent and strengthen the DACC student community.

“In these dark times, it was an amazing daily reminder of the talent, creativity, and passion of our DACC students. Perhaps my favorite thing of all was how the students encouraged each other and promoted not just their own artwork but those of their fellow students. For me, it was a wonderful reminder of what it means to be ‘Community’ College,” said Mayra Valadez, Cultural Diversity Committee member.
