Women’s football team tackles home building with Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity

Posted

Members of the New Mexico Banitas tackle football team of Las Cruces, along with coaches Brian Bartlett and Noah Bartlett and General Manager Jamar Cotton, spent Saturday, Jan. 28 helping to build Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity (MVHH) houses on Aurora Star Court.

The team is in its second season as part of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). Playing as the Cruces Regulators, It finished last season with a 4-2 record.

"We've got a new name this season, but our attitudes about winning the Championship haven't changed,” said Banitas tight end and defensive end/outside linebacker Cindy Pitts. “We said last year that we weren't finished and we're here to prove that we've got a goal and that goal is to win it all."

"I'm expecting big things this year,” said Head Coach Brian Bartlett. “Anything short of a championship will be a disappointment."

"Teamwork, community partnerships and winning is what we aim for,” said General Manager Jamar Cotton. “We are creating a culture which empowers everyone. We build, we encourage and we support these women as they grow on and off the field. We expect to have an amazing and impactful season.  We want to thank MVHH for giving us the opportunity to make a difference for others. We thank them for also doing what they do to help others.  We look forward to working more with them as we all help our community grow."
