Young Park shooters charged

Posted

The four suspects involved in the Young Park shooting that killed three and left 15 injured on Friday, March 21, were all charged as adults.

On Monday, April 7, suspects 20-year-old Tomas Rivas, 17-year-old Gustavo Dominguez, 17-year-old Nathan Rivas, and 15-year-old Josiah Ontiveros all plead not guilty.  Although three are juveniles, once they are charged as adults, their names are released to the public.

All four were indicted on charges of first-degree murder, including conspiracy to commit murder. If they are convicted, they may face up to a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Herman Ortiz, the attorney representing Dominguez said it is a “classic self-defense situation.”

“I feel deeply sorry for anyone who lost their life in this situation. Conspiracy has nothing to do with it. I think that that is an extremely weak allegation,” Ortiz said.

The Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando Macias said, while talking to the press, that the attorneys have 10 days to gather evidence but could be given more time for scientific evidence. Macias is expecting to go to trial before the summer is over.

All four suspects are being held without bond, three at the juvenile detention center and Rivas is still being held at the Doña Ana Detention Center.
