Posted

The Las Cruces branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) celebrated its 100th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Double Eagle in Mesilla, AAUW-Las Cruces Co-President Anne Chase said in an email to the Bulletin. 54 people attended the celebration tea party, which honored the branch’s founders, who hosted AAUW meetings in their homes over tea, Chase said. Speakers included former Doña Ana County Manager Julia Brown, who is AAUW national board chair and a member of AAUW-Las Cruces. Event coordinators were Ruth Jaure, Laura Bemis and Kay Brilliant. With a mission “to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy” AAUW-Las Cruces Branch (AAUW-LC) was founded June 25, 1923. It was the first AAUW chapter in New Mexico. Visit lascruces-nm.aauw.net.
