It’s all things Aggie for Nov. 3-4 homecoming at New Mexico State University.
NMSU has been celebrating homecoming since 1926, and this year will be bigger and better than ever.
Here are highlights of Homecoming 2023’s major events:
Distinguished Alumni dinner
NMSU’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Celebration Dinner begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Hotel Encanto, 705 S. Telshor Blvd. This year’s honorees are Barbara Hubbard (James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service), Charles R. Rogers (College of Business), Christopher Kazanjian (College of Health, Education and Social Transformation), Gustav “Gus” Seligmann (College of Arts and Sciences), Heather Whitley (College of Arts and Sciences), Jeanne Gleason (College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences), John Yates, Jr. (College of Engineering) and Lea Wise-Surguy (Young Alumni Service Award).
The NMSU Alumni Association has presented more than 350 awards since 1956, honoring alumni who “demonstrate outstanding university involvement and notable civic, humanitarian and professional contributions.”
Parade
The 2023 Homecoming Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Pan American Center and travels west on University Ave.
Aggie 25th and 50th Silver & Gold Reunion Celebration Luncheon
The lunch will be held at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Hotel Encanto, honoring NMSU’s 1973 and 1998 graduates.
10th annual AG Day
1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Pan American Center south parking lot and the Aggie Memorial Stadium northeast parking lot, north of the stadium. The event celebrates agriculture in New Mexico, with dozens of educational and informational booths on hand for the street festival, helping to educate children and adults about agronomy in the state. It will include interaction with live animals, New Mexico 4-H, NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, New Mexico Cowbelles and New Mexico Ag in the Classroom.
Alumni Tailgate
The 2023 homecoming tailgate with alumni and friends is 2-4 p.m. (right before the Aggie football game) Saturday, Nov. 4, in the parking lot between Pan American Center and Aggie Memorial Stadium, at the corner of Arrowhead Drive and Stewart Street on the east side of the NMSU-Las Cruces campus. A full meal will be served by Rudy’s Bar B-Q. Icebox Brewery will have a cash bar. The event will include the NMSU Pride marching band, cheer squad and Pistol Pete.
Football game
The NMSU Aggies (6-3) take on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-6) beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Aggie Memorial Stadium. For the first time in more than 20 years, the Aggies have won four football games in a row, thanks to their comeback 27-24 road win over Louisiana Tech Oct. 24. Under Coach Jerry Kill, the Aggies are hoping a win over Middle Tennessee will help propel them to their second consecutive bowl game this year. The Aggies are 4-1 in Conference USA, currently in third place behind Liberty and Jax State in the nine-team conference that also includes UTEP.
Fireworks after the game
Spectacular fireworks will be launched from Sisbarro Community Park across from Aggie Memorial Stadium immediately after the NMSU-Middle Tennessee football game.
