Agave's Artist Gallery’s August artist of the month is ceramicist and jeweler Lisa Carlson of Las Cruces.
Carlson earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the University of Texas in ceramics in 1984 and a master’s in education from New Mexico State University in 2000. She taught students in preschool and middle school in Las Cruces for 16 years and directed four school-wide mural projects at Fairacres and Conlee elementary schools, Mesa Middle School and Dolores Huerta Charter Middle School.
As Carlson grew her ceramic business, she established a jewelry line using silver and semi-precious stones, the gallery said in a news release. Carlson will host backyard sales later this year, featuring tables with inlaid mosaic tiles and wrought iron bases, hanging garden tiles with wood and natural stones, plus ceramic bowls and jewelry.
Carlson will host a short ceramic demonstration using paper stencils and clay, 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Agave Gallery, 2250 Calle de San Albino in Mesilla.
From 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, Lisa will offer a short ceramic demonstration using paper stencils with clay.
Agave Gallery is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Monday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. the second Saturday of each month.
