Aggies move to WAC second round

The New Mexico State University women’s basketball team have advanced to the second round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament after a commanding 65-49 victory over the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley Monday night at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Aggies, seeded #7 in the 12-team tourney, advance to play Southern Utah at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the second round. Southern Utah is seeded #2 and had a first-round bye.

Monday night, Molly Kaiser was the star of the show for NMSU. The third-year guard scored 25 points for the game – the third 20-point performance in her last four outings. Tayelin Grays also had a solid night for the Aggies, scoring 13 while adding seven rebounds and three assists.

The Aggies led the Vaqueros for the majority of the game. The Vaqueros last lead came in the first quarter with about five minutes remaining. From there, the Aggies proceeded to outscore the Vaqueros 57-39, winning by a final score of 65-49.
