Artisan Market re-scheduled

Fourth Annual Multicultural Artisan Market to be held Oct. 13-15.

Bellas Artes y Cultura has re-scheduled its Fourth Annual Multicultural Artisan Market to Oct. 13-15.

The change in date is largely due to the sustained oppressive heat for what was originally planned as an outdoor event.

In addition to the date change, the event is also moving indoors, to Alma d’Arte Charter High School, 402 W. Court Ave.

The Market brings together artisans from throughout New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico.

“We received a lot of feedback from our artists about the heat,” said Erlinda Portillo, with Bella Artes y Cultura. “We were concerned about the health and safety of our artists as well as our visitors.”

The Las Cruces area has been experiencing record heat this summer, breaking records for most 100-degree days, and most consecutive 100-degree days.

The art displays will be 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, and entertainment will be ongoing both days. A demonstration booth will be held during certain hours of the Market, and a silent auction will take place Saturday.

“Having it at Alma d’Arte also enables us to involve the students, who can learn and share their art as well.”

The event is free.

Registration deadline for artists has been extended to Monday, Oct. 2. To learn how to register, visit bayclc.org.
