Arts Council offers summer programs

The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) will offer two youth enrichment programs during the summer of 2023: Career Art Path (CAP) and Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT).

This is the 34th year DAAC will offer CAP, the arts council said in a news release. The program was founded by Marian and Jordon Wolle, “who believed middle school is the time for youth who are interested in the arts to realize their creative potential,” DAAC said in a news release.

During the two-week immersive CAP workshop, June 5-16, fifth-eighth-grade students explore art-related careers through hands-on art-making activities, guest speakers and field trips, DAAC said.  And, the artwork they create during CAP will be exhibited by DAAC.

The cost of CAP participation is $100 per student.

“As a former middle school arts educator, I am excited to support our young aspiring artists and look forward to seeing their creativity take form,” DAAC Executive Director Araceli Solis said.

MCT “is one of the most exciting and fun summer programs for children and youth in Las Cruces,” DAAC said.

In this one-week theater camp, July 10-15, actors in grades one-12 “not only experience the thrill of performing, but also have the opportunity to work with theater props and costumes and learn invaluable team-building skills,” DAAC said.

This year, MCT students will perform "The Little Mermaid."

Tuition is $70 per student, with a discount for children in the same immediate family.

Scholarships are available for both programs, DAAC said.
