Auditions for Community Theatre’s ‘Matilda’ are Dec. 11-12 at NMSU

Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) will hold auditions for “Matilda the Musical,” 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, and 6-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts, 1000 E. University Ave., at the corner of University Avenue and Espina Street on the NMSU campus. Enter through the doors on the south side of the building.

Appointments are not necessary and auditioners only need to attend one audition.

Auditioners will be asked to sing 16-32 bars (about 30 seconds) of an upbeat, contemporary song for the audition, and to read a selection from the script, LCCT said in an email.

Needed for the show are men, women, boys and girls ages 7-55. No roles have been pre-cast, LCCT said.

Roles to be cast are Matilda, age 6-11; Miss Agatha Trunchbull, age 35-55; Miss Honey, age 25-40; Mr. Wormwood, age 3-45; Mrs. Wormwood, age 30-45; Mrs. Phelps, age 30-45; Bruce, age 7-14; Lavender, age 6-10; Amanda, Alice and Hortensia, Tommy, Eric and Nigel, ages 6-14; Michael Wormwood, age 10-15; teenagers who can dance and sing; the ensemble, which includes the doctor, the escapologist, the acrobat, Rudolpho, competitive dancers, the judge, the cook, Sergei and henchmen/henchwomen.

Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, and will be held 6-9:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday at LCCT, 313 N. Main St. downtown. Performances of “Matilda the Musical” will be Feb. 10-26, 2023 at LCCT.
