The Border Jazz Orchestra will perform a holiday concert, “Swingin’ in the Holidays,” beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. downtown.
Tickets are $15. Children under age 10 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
The concert will include performances of “Jingle Bells,” “Yo Tannanbaum,” “All I Want for Christmas is My Bass Trombone” and other holiday favorites. There will also be a special appearance by the BIG SC, the ELF.
The concert is sponsored by the Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society (MVJBS). Concert proceeds will go toward the MVJBS Scholarship Fund, said MVJBS President Frank “Pancho” Romero. This past summer the society awarded seven scholarships to NMSU Jazz students to help with tuition and other educational expenses.
“There is nothing like the sound of an 18-piece big band playing Holiday music,” Romero said. “This will be a memorable concert, reminiscent of the Swing Era spectaculars of the ‘50’s and ‘60s.
