Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) was expected to receive a seven-figure donation from the Woody and Gayle Hunt Family Foundation (WGHFF) May 17 at BCOM, 3501 Arrowhead Drive.

In partnership with Southwest Foundation for Osteopathic Education and Research (SFOER), WGHFF said it would make “a seven figure commitment to health care innovation in the Borderplex region” with the award to BCOM.

Those attending the announcement were expected to include: WGHFF Chair Woody L. Hunt; BOMC President John Hummer; SROER Board Chair Bill Baker and BCOM students, WGHFF said in a news release.

Based in El Paso, WGHFF was founded in 1987.

“Our family has prioritized the needs of our community and invested in the organizations and institutions that are improving the quality of life in the Borderplex region,” Hunt said on the foundation website. “Our charitable giving focuses on the arts and local heritage, economic development, education, health care, quality of life initiatives and elevating the Borderplex region in state and national efforts -- the pillars that will help our region grow in prosperity and competitiveness.”

BCOM broke ground in 2015 and graduated its first class in May 2020.
