The 2020 Las Cruces Bridal & Special Events Showcase featured a cake dive for the first time. The cake – valued at more than $4,000 by Let Them Eat Cake owner Stephanie Baumann – was reduced from grandeur to crumbs in a matter of seconds Sunday, Jan. 26, when 11 contestants tore into it in search of a pair of diamond earrings valued at $1,070, donated by Austin Fine Jewelry. Soon after the onslaught began, Alyssa Gonzales, 32, of Las Cruces, held up the box with the earrings inside and was declared the winner. Later in the afternoon, Matt Avilucea and Tanell DeGroat got married as winners of the Fifth Annual Tie the Knot wedding competition, sponsored by Magic 104.9 FM. The Bridal Showcase event was held at the Las Cruces Convention Center.
