The City of Las Cruces Museum System will host free, drop-in activities Tuesday-Friday, Sept. 27-Oct. 7, during Las Cruces Public Schools’ fall break, the city said in a news release.

Programs will take place 10 a.m.-noon each day.

Participants can earn a limited-edition museum badge by participating in at least one day’s activities. Admission to the museums and programs is free.

Here are the scheduled activity dates and locations:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 27: Museum of Art, 491 N. Main St.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 28: Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main St.
  • Thursday, Sept. 29: Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main S.
  • Friday, Sept. 30: Railroad Museum, 351 N. Mesilla St.

Teen Science Café: Companion Animals

Visitors are invited to return to all four museums during the second week of LCPS fall break, 10 a.m.-noon, Tuesday-Friday, Oct. 4-7, for special self-guided activities and experiences, the city said.

Also, at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Museum of Nature and Science, 411 N. Main St., will host “Teen Science Café: Companion Animals,” the city said in another news release.

The event, which includes dinner, is free to attend for ages 11-17.

The guest will be Gaylene Fasenko, Ph.D., director of the Human-Animal Interaction Program at New Mexico State University. Participants will interact with a trained assistance animal and be able to ask questions about animal behavior and training, the city said.

“Fasenko studies the characteristics and stereotypes that influence people’s choices in selecting a dog as a companion animal. She also studies the physiological effects of the bond between people and their companion animals,” the city said.

Las Cruces museums are accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
