Clerk’s office marries 30 on Valentine’s Day

A total of 30 couples tied the knot on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Doña Ana County Government Center on Tuesday, February 14th, as the offices of County Clerk Amanda Lopez Askin and County Probate Judge Judith Ann Baca partnered to perform the ceremonies.

The marriages were officiated by Baca, Chief Deputy County Clerk Caroline Zamora and Deputy Clerk Brandi Delgado, the clerk’s office said in a news release.

Multiple weddings were performed simultaneously in the rotunda of the county building. Family, friends and passersby at the Government Center were able to attend the nuptials and take photos of the special moments, the clerk’s office said.

Couples wishing to be married on Valentine’s Day applied for their marriage licenses prior to Feb. 14 on the clerk’s office website and then scheduled their ceremonies. After they were married, the couples returned their signed marriage licenses for recording and filing at the clerk’s office.

“Being a part of the marriage ceremonies yesterday was a wonderful experience,” Zamora said. “The couples and families were incredibly appreciative of the service, and it was a complete joy. Our team in the clerk’s office did an incredible job making the experience as seamless and as special as possible. From decorating to recording and filing, our team did a terrific job. Also, our extended team at the government center, including facilities, information technology and security who assisted us as well. We hope to continue collaborating with the probate judge’s office and to provide this special service to our community in the years to come.”

The tradition of marrying couples on Valentine’s Day in the county building rotunda began several years ago but took a hiatus due to the pandemic, the news release said.
