Community college has $16 million bond on Nov. 7 ballot

Doña Ana Community College will have a $16 million general obligation (GO) bond on the Nov. 7 local election ballot.

If passed by voters, bond funds will provide upgrades and improvements to DACC campuses without raising property taxes, DACC said in a news release.

Bond funds will be used for these projects:

  • Area security and safety upgrades: $1.4 million, to improve security and surveillance access/control and camera systems, exterior locks and site lighting at all DACC locations.
  • Infrastructure improvements: $1.15 million, for maintenance and repair and site development.
  • Classroom upgrades/facility renewal/renovations: $2.85 million, for renovation and re-purposing of selected instructional areas at all DACC sites, including room configuration, furniture, room finishes and instructional equipment.
  • Information technology/upgrades/equipment acquisition: $2.5 million, for renovation and re-purposing of selected instructional areas at all DACC sites.
  • Facilities: $8.1 million, for improvements to the DACC Sunland Park Center to replace portables with permanent classrooms and provision of science labs and student areas.
