Community Theatre wants directors for 2023-24 shows

Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) is looking for directors for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

LCCT plans to produce five shows during the 2023-24 season, beginning Aug. 11, 2023, and continuing through June 16, 2024, said LCCT play-reading committee chair Norman Lewis. “The theatre’s play selection committee is now accepting director applications for comedies, dramas and musicals.”

Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023.

In choosing shows for next season, Lewis said LCCT will look for shows that are likely to be popular with both audiences and potential actors and can be reasonably cast and produced by LCCT.

“In choosing next season’s directors, LCCT will consider each candidate’s experience directing plays at community theatre and other Las Cruces venues as well as the feedback of the audience, the cast and crew with those shows,” Lewis said. “LCCT will consider first-time directors in the new season, and potential directors are encouraged to submit multiple applications for different shows, although only one show may be selected since each director may only direct one show per season.”

Potential directors may submit applications to direct shows of their own choosing for next season or shows suggested by LCCT, he said.

“LCCT, like most lives theatres across America, is attempting to grow its audience and improve its financial viability,” Lewis said, “and the selection of shows for the season is the most critical decision that the theatre makes. The right director for the right project is what we are searching for. We need you, so please do your part in helping us bring theater to our Las Cruces home – apply to direct!”
