COVID SAFETY

Covid safety reminder

Posted

A little more than two years later, variants of the Covid virus still must be dealt with.

The City of Las Cruces Quality of Life Department and the Parks and Recreation Department urge residents to keep being vigilant and do everything possible to keep themselves safe and healthy from Covid.

Covid cases have again begun increasing across New Mexico. The importance of paying attention to symptoms, getting vaccinations or boosters, and taking advantage of every opportunity for prevention from the deadly virus has not lessened one iota.

Watch for the symptoms that could signal Covid. Those include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • A new loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

There remains several recommendations everyone can easily follow to stay healthy and enjoy all summer activities.

If you are sick or think you might have COVID please seek immediate medical care and stay home.  Take care of yourself, stay in touch with your medical provider, and avoid participating in public activities. Avoid using public transportation.

Exercising prevention and caution are vital components in avoiding COVID. Public health officials continue to stress that anyone who is unvaccinated should contact the New Mexico Department of Health or their medical provider to learn more about vaccine safety and effectiveness.

Anyone who needs a booster, particularly those who are 65-years old or older or whose immune systems are compromised, should contact their pharmacy to learn more about making appointments to get a booster. Also, please remember, getting vaccinated or a booster, is free!

Continuing to wear masks, observing social distancing, and frequent hand washing are essential tools to help prevent the spread of Covid when indoors or in at-risk activities.

The City continues to offer plenty of summer activities for adults and children, everyone from seniors to youth. We want this summer to be an active and healthy one for everyone!
