A new initiative at Walmart is shining a spotlight on some of New Mexico’s favorite snack brands. The retailer is giving El Indio chips top placement at its stores in Las Cruces.

The local snack will be the first snack a customer sees when they enter the chip aisle, so they can easily find their local favorite.

Las Cruces shoppers can also go directly to the source, El Indio Tortilla Shop at 150 E. Madrid Ave. In addition to its chips and tortillas, El Indio also serves freshly made Mexican food for takeout.

Walmart is spotlighting more than 35 regional chip brands across the county to get increased visibility at local Walmart stores. The retailer’s goal is to strengthen communities and support local and regional brands, the company said in a news release.

With prominent placement in the aisle, Walmart will highlight local favorites for customers, the release said.
