The Las Cruces Marine Corps League El Perro Diablo Detachment 478 earned multiple first-place honors at the 14th annual Military Honors Burial Conference at Albuquerque’s Veterans Memorial Park Aug. 25. The competition consists of teams conducting a mock funeral observed and graded by members of the Department of Veterans Services and the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard Team. El Perro Diablo Det. 478 placed first in the large team category and first in the small team category. Large teams are graded on flag folding, presenting the flag, playing taps, and three-rifle volleys. Small teams are graded on flag folding, presenting the flag and playing taps. Det. 478 team members are Andres Rivera, Al Mondragon, Clemente Morales, Don Hanlin, Gilbert Tarin, Greg Long, Jeffery Eakman, Jesse Rodrigues, Joe Mendiola, Joe Montoya, Neri Frietze, and Ray Rivera.
