Exhibitions Explore Art and Natural Environment

Posted

The Las Cruces Museums announced the Jan. 5 opening of two new exhibitions examining how artists relate to the natural environment. The exhibitions will be available through March 23.

“Connection : : Conjunto” will be at the Branigan Cultural Center, 501 N. Main Street, featuring artwork from The Border Artists regarding the connection between artists, the natural environment and the community in which they live. The show features 32 works in diverse media including painting, photography, ceramics and mixed media.

At the Museum of Art, 491 N. Main Street, “The Desert Was Red and Red the Dust Was Raised” uses abstraction to consider the relationship between the desert landscape and how it influences an artist’s imagery. The show features five female artists living and working in Las Cruces and El Paso: Sharbani Das Gupta, Zoe Spiliotis, Isadora Stowe, Laura Turón and Amy Vensel.

Both centers are open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays thru Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission is free and accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit route 1, stop 1.

A joint opening reception will be held Friday, Jan. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with participating artists in attendance, the city stated in a news release.
