Former judge announces opening of new law firm

Posted

Former Third Judicial District Judge Jessica Streeter has resigned from her position as Las Cruces municipal judge and has announced the opening of a new Las Cruces law firm, Adelante Legal Services, LLC.

The opening of the law firm marks Streeter’s return to private practice after her time as a district court judge and municipal court judge, Streeter said in a news release.

Streeter will be joined in the new law firm by Michael Dugan, a family law lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, Streeter said.

“The firm will focus on family law, with an emphasis on mediation and unbundled legal services to help families resolve their family law issues without the need for contested hearings,” the news release said.

“While acting as a judge, I saw that many of the cases could have been handled without waiting for a court hearing if the parties had known about other options,” Streeter said. “Our firm hopes to help people address their legal issues thoroughly and professionally while ensuring people know all of their options including alternatives to court.”

The law firm is located at 333 S. Campo St.

Streeter was appointed district court judge in Las Cruces by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham in February 2022. Streeter presided almost exclusively over family law cases during her time on the bench, she said. After her term expired last Dec. 31, she was appointed municipal judge 2 beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

Streeter’s previous law firm won Bulletin’s Best Estate Planning Attorneys in 2021 and was the runner-up for Best Law Firm that same year.
