Gloria T. Chapman, 80

Gloria T. Chapman was summoned by our Lord on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022, at age 80.

Gloria was born in September 1941, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, to Francisco and Isabel Torres. She graduated from Alamogordo High School and attended New Mexico State University. Gloria met her husband, Michael Chapman, in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. They married in Alamogordo in September 1978, then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, shortly thereafter with Gloria's daughters, Monica and Melissa. Gloria and Mike had one son together, David Chapman, born January 1980.

Gloria was an active member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tulsa. She worked for American Airlines and, later, the Union School System in Tulsa. Gloria loved to sew and decorate, and she was quite talented at both. She was also a great cook, whipping up wonderful dinners and baking delicious desserts.

In May 2021, the Chapmans returned to New Mexico and settled in Las Cruces, where Gloria attended St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Gloria is survived by her husband, Michael Chapman; three children, Monica Kekuewa, Melissa Tierney-Jones (and husband, Kieron Tierney-Jones) and David Chapman; three grandchildren: Jessica Grisak, Avalon Coltharp and Jake Chapman; one great-grandchild, Elliot Grisak; three sisters, Isabel Johnson of Alamogordo, Sarah Fina Liston of Albuquerque, and Rachel Rose of League City, Texas; nieces Ana Weiland, Denise Ullibarri, Diana Liston, Antoinette Montoya and Amber Macias-Mayo; and one nephew, David Macias.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Arthur Macias. Gloria will be remembered for her love of her family and her giving nature. A funeral at St. Jude Catholic Parish and burial at Monte Vista Cemetery took place in Alamogordo March 1.
