Governor authorizes Gallup lockdown

Posted

In response to an emergency request from the mayor of Gallup, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham invoked the state’s Riot Control Act at noon Friday, May 1, authorizing her to enact further temporary restrictions to mitigate the uninhibited spread of COVID-19 in Gallup, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Effective with the order, all roads into Gallup were closed. Vehicles were limited to a maximum of two individuals and residents of the city were to remain at home except for emergency outings. May 1 was the first day in office for new Gallup Mayor Louis Bonaguidi, who was sworn in less than three hours after the emergency order took effect. The order will expire at noon Monday, May 4, the governor’s office said.
