Hawks, Trojans stay alive in state playoffs

Football: Centennial High School, seeded No. 3 in Class 6A, will host 6-seed Rio Rancho in the state playoff quarterfinals 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces. The winner of the game will advance to the state semifinals Nov. 18 or 19, to play the winner of the Farmington-LaCueva quarterfinal being played Nov. 11 in Albuquerque.

Sixth-seeded Mayfield High School earned a spot in the Class 5A state playoff quarterfinals by beating Santa Teresa 21-10 Nov. 4 in Las Cruces. The Trojans will travel to Farmington to play No. 3 seed Piedra Vista Nov. 12. The winner of that game will advance to the semifinals Nov. 18 or 19 against the winner of the Gadsden-Roswell game being played Nov. 12 in Roswell.

Soccer: The Las Cruces High School girls made it to the state 5A semifinals by beating Santa Fe High School 4-1. They were knocked out the following weekend by Eldorado Nov. 2.

The Centennial High School boys finished state runner-up in Class 5A, going 20-2-1 on the season. They earned a spot in the championship game by defeating Santa Fe High School 5-0 in the semifinals Nov. 2. The Hawks’ run finally ended Soccer: The Las Cruces High School girls made it to the state 5A semifinals by beating Santa Fe High School 4-1. They were knocked out the following weekend by Eldorado Nov. 2.
