The New Mexico Association of Realtors (NMAR) has chosen Connie Hettinga of Las Cruces as its 2023 New Mexico Realtor of the Year, NMAR said in a news release.

Hettinga received the award during NMAR’s annual conference earlier this month in Mescalero, New Mexico.

“We are thrilled to honor Connie as Realtor of the year,” NMAR President Hubert H. Hill II said. “This award is a nod to Connie’s decades of leadership, service and sacrifice for New Mexico’s real estate sector, as well as her unwavering commitment to serving her clients with the integrity and high ethical standard for which Realtors have developed a well-deserved reputation.”

“It was a big surprise,” said Hettinga, vice president of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Steinborn & Associates in Las Cruces. “I go to the conventions every year, and have served for the associations and currently serve on local, state, regional and national committees.”

Hettinga was NMAR president beginning in 2010  and served again in 2018.

Hettinga began her real estate career in 1997 in Anchorage, Alaska, after serving with the Anchorage Police Department, NMAR said. In 2002, Hettinga and her husband moved to Las Cruces, where she became a member of the Las Cruces Association of Realtors, eventually served as its president. Hettinga was also the president of the Las Cruces Multiple Listing Service and was named Las Cruces Realtor of the year in 2006. In 2018, she served as immediate past chair of land use, property rights and environmental committee for the National Association of Realtors.
