Illegal dumping increases

Las Cruces Utilities places solid waste roll-offs

Posted

Add increased illegal dumping to the list of side effects wrought by the spread of the Coronavirus. To help curb the illegal dumping in and around Las Cruces, Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) Solid Waste has temporarily placed roll-offs in three (3) locations for residents to use:

  • The intersection of Engler Rd. and N. Roadrunner Pkwy.
  • Adjacent to the Water Tank at the intersection of Sedona Hills Pkwy. and Pagosa Hills Ave.
  • The East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool Parking Lot, 6151 Reynolds Dr.

Robin Lawrence, deputy director Solid Waste, said, “We were required to follow the Emergency Stay-at-Home order to keep our population safe. That meant solid waste and recycling facilities were also temporarily closed to the general public to help reduce the possibility of spreading of the virus. But those closures frustrated some residents who have been dumping trash and yard waste outside the facilities and alongside roads.”

At least through Friday, May 1, the roll-offs will remain in place and will be serviced as they are filled.

You can reach LCU at 575-528-3500 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. LCU provides GAS – WATER – WASTEWATER – SOLID WASTE services to approximately 100,000 Las Cruces residents and businesses.
