Ingle honored by public media stations

Retired state Sen. Stuart Ingle was presented with the inaugural Duane Ryan New Mexico Public Media Award on Dec. 4, celebrating his support of funding for public media throughout nearly four decades in the New Mexico Legislature.

The award was presented by stations KRWG of Las Cruces, KENW of Portales and KNME of Albuquerque. All three are PBS affiliates, and KRWG and KNME are also NPR affiliates, according to a news release.

The award is named for the longtime general manager of KENW, who died in Portales in April at the age of 90. Ryan’s efforts are credited with bringing both PBS and NPR to eastern New Mexico and west Texas in the 1970s. He joined the New Mexico Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2015.

Ingle, 75, a Republican from Portales, was elected to the state Senate in 1985 and served until his retirement in October of this year.
