Las Cruces artist Judy Licht is Agave's Gallery’s artist of the month for July, the gallery said in a news release.
“Licht has early memories of drawing, her foundation for obtaining several art degrees – in education and painting from New Mexico State University and in art therapy from the University of New Mexico,” the gallery said.
Licht began her career teaching art in public schools and at NMSU, Agave Gallery said, before turning her attention to dyes on silk, a Japanese style called Batik. She draws her inspiration from the natural world by creating eco prints, using natural materials on silk and Nuno felting which bonds wool to silk.
Licht will have a hands-on demonstration, “Painting on Silk,” at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the gallery. All participants’ materials and supplies will be provided by the gallery.
Agave Gallery, 2250 Calle de San Albino, is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday-Monday.
