Korean War writer gives talk

Posted

The Friends of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library (TBML) will present an author talk about his book, “OinK! (Only in Korea!),” presented by Las Cruces author David Osterhout, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the Roadrunner Room on the second floor of the library, 200 E. Picacho Ave.

There is no charge to attend. Copies of Osterhout’s book will be available for sale during the event.

Osterhout will offer a first-hand account of life on the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) from the perspective of a U.S. Army Intelligence Office lieutenant, the Friends said in a news release.

In the book, Osterhout discusses a mission “to stop infiltrators and spies from entering the Republican of Korea” through the DMZ in 1980, Osterhout relates, even though the Korean War ended in 1953.

Osterhout’s “account of his tour of duty will provide fascinating answers and a rare insight into the life of soldiers serving along the DMZ,” the news release said.

He received a meritorious service medal for his work on the DMZ. His book, a novel, was written during his eight-month stay in a military hospital.
