Branigan Cultural Center (BCC), 501 N. Main St., opens a new exhibit, “Las Cruces: Crossroads of History” beginning Friday, Sept. 8, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

“The exhibition tells the overarching history of Las Cruces and its prominent place in Borderland history from prehistory through the 1960s,” the news release said.

The exhibit will be on display through the summer of 2024.

Using original artifacts and historic photographs, the exhibit “charts the history of the region from its early indigenous inhabitants to its settlement by Mexicans and to its shift to being a part of the United States in 1848,” the city said. “The establishment and growth of Las Cruces is followed via multiple topics including Civil War soldiers, ranchers and outlaws. The introduction of the railroad in 1878 and its impact is covered, as well as New Mexico statehood in 1912. The exhibit ends with the impact of World War II and the nuclear and rocket technology that followed it.”

BCC is open 10 a.m.4- p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge. The museum is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 1.
