Las Cruces' Marine Corps League wins awards

Las Cruces’ Marine Corps League El Perro Diablo Detachment 478 won three awards at the 14th Annual Military Honors Burial Conference.

Teams from Albuquerque, Carlsbad, Roswell, Santa Fe and the Las Cruces group competed at Sonoma Ranch Golf Course in Las Cruces April 21.

The competition consists of teams conducting a mock funeral that is being viewed and graded by members of the Dept. of Veterans Services and the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard Team.  

El Perro Diablo placed both first and second in the large team category, and first in the small team category. Large teams are graded on flag folding, presenting the flag, playing taps and three rifle volleys. Small teams are graded on playing taps, flag folding and presenting the flag. Marine Corps League El Perro Diablo Det. 478 team members are Joe Mendiola, Don Marquez, Ed Clark, Don Hanlin, Ruben Telles, Gilbert Tarin, Jeffrey Eakman, Larry Rodriguez, Neri Frietze, Joe Montoya, Jesse Rodriguez, Ray Rivera, Al Mondragon, Hector Torres, Gregory Long, Victor Eres,  George Hernandez, Clemente Morales, Martin Rodriguez and Andres Rivera.
