The Paso del Norte Health Foundation (PNHF) recently awarded 12 grants totaling more than $1.2 million under the Healthy Kids Initiatives. Many of the grant recipients are Las Cruces-based nonprofits.
Those recipients are
Friends of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Inc.: $92,400 for Moving Montañas, to provide out-of-school programming to 100 disconnected youth ages 5-17 through outdoor activities in Doña Ana County.
The Healthy Kids Initiative “works to improve a range of health outcomes by engaging disconnected youth and young adults in the Paso del Norte region in high-quality programs during out-of-school hours. PNHF refers to “disconnected youth” as ages of 5-17 who are not involved in out-of-school activities or not working and “disconnected youth adults” as ages 16-24 who are not in school and not working.
PNHF was established in 1995 from the sale of Providence Memorial Hospital to Tenet Healthcare Corporation. The Health Foundation seeks to ensure people living in far west Texas, southern New Mexico and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico have the knowledge, resources and skills to lead healthy lives.
