Three Las Cruces pharmacy students have been approved for admission to the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy next August, the director of the UNM/NMSU Cooperative Pharmacy Program said in a news release.

The three are Billy Ruth III, David Ogodo and Kirsten Hood, said Amy S. Buesing, program director. All three were NMSU Crimson Scholars and were active members of the NMSU Pre-Pharmacy Society. All three will be recognized as students of the UNM PharmD Class of 2007 in an August 2023 white coat ceremony.

Ruth is the son of Billy R. Ruth and Luisa I. Ruth. He graduated from Arrowhead Park Medical Academy High School in 2020. He was also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in 3 years..

Ogodo is the son of Diamond Ogodo and Ekaette Ogodo. He graduated from Organ Mountain High School in 2020 and was awarded the Latimer Evans Scholarship. Ogodo earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in three years.

Hood is the daughter of Russell and Amanda Hood. She graduated from Centennial High School in 2020. Hood worked as a pharmacy technician trainee at a local pharmacy while attending NMSU, and, during her junior year, served as a teaching assistant.

The UNM/NMSU Cooperative Pharmacy Program began in 2007 to address the pharmacist shortage in southern New Mexico, the news release said. This program proactively increases access to pharmacy education for residents of southern New Mexico by offering a collaborative curriculum leading to a doctor of pharmacy degree (PharmD).
