Las Cruces University Avenue water outage coming Thursday night

Posted

Residences and businesses on several Las Cruces streets will experience a water outage from 10 p.m. Thursday, July 20, to 2 a.m. Friday, July 21.

Streets affected by the water outage include:

  • University Avenue: From Espina Street to Locust Street.
  • Monte Vista Avenue: From Solano Drive to Jordan Road.
  • Plain Street: From Solano Drive to Jordan Road.
  • Mesa Avenue: From Solano Drive to Jordan Road.
  • Chaparral Street: From Plain Street to University Avenue.

-Mountain Construction, under contract with the City, will tie-in a new water system as part of the University Avenue Waterline and Mill/Overlay project. This work will be done in City Council District 2.

Adjacent areas also may be affected. If water on your street is scheduled to be turned off, crews will post a door hanger notice a minimum of 24 hours in advance.

Once service is restored, residents may notice discolored water due to iron, manganese, and calcium deposits. Although the water is safe to drink, City officials recommend waiting for the water to become clear before washing laundry.

The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, residents should flush all faucets in their house for five minutes.

If the discoloration remains, call the City at 575-526-0500 for assistance. The TTY phone number is 575-541-2182.
