Tobias Rene will play a free community concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St., as part of the City of Las Cruces’ Music on the Plaza Concert series, the city said in a news release.

El Paso’s Sonora Skandalo will open the show.

Tobias Rene is a Latin music icon from New Mexico, the city said. In 2004, then New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson officially declared Tobias Rene “King of New Mexico Music.”

Tobias Rene has collectively sold more than one million CDs and digital downloads from six different albums during the last decade, the city said. He is best known for his New Mexico/Tex-Mex style of music, and has numerous No. 1 Spanish music hits throughout the Southwest and a Top 10 hit on European country radio.
