LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO

League of Women Voters and Local Artist to Encourage Voting

Posted

The League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) and local artist Bob Diven are teaming up to encourage voter participation in the upcoming General Election.  Beginning at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, League members will be at the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market in downtown Las Cruces assisting residents with questions about registration, registering to vote, completing the census, and providing voter information, said League Co-President Eileen VanWie.  In addition, longtime artist Bob Diven will be “demonstrating the value of voting in the General Election” with his sidewalk chalk drawings.

“The local League has been active in discussing civic engagement in our democracy during the past several weeks, so the League will be at the market sharing information that will help get-out-the-vote,” said VanWie.

Free copies of the League’s popular Voters’ Guide that the non-profit organization prints before major elections will also be available to pick up at the Farmers Market.  The 16-page guide has information from candidates who answered questions posed to them by League members.  Flyers and bookmarks also will be distributed at the League’s table, said Co-President Kathy Brook.

“If someone prefers a printed guide, they can contact the League at lwvsnm@gmail.com,” said Brook. “Residents can also download the guide and flyers that are in English and Spanish from the League’s website,” “LWVSNM is encouraging residents to vote early,” added Brooks.

Early voting in Doña Ana County began Oct. 6, the last day to apply for an absentee ballot is Oct. 20, and voter registration in-person ends on Oct. 31.  A link to early voting locations, and Election Day voting locations, are also on the League’s website at www.lwvsnm.org.
