LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Everyone deserves affordable housing

Posted

I agree with Mr. Coltharp's opinion piece in the 9/30 Bulletin. As a recent retiree and fairly new resident in Las Cruces, I
believe we can all do something to address the untenable increase in housing costs that is a major factor contributing to the
homelessness problem that affects the quality of life for all of us.
I am fortunate to be able to help provide housing to an older sister and a young nephew, so I am aware of the struggles of both
elderly people trying to survive on very low Social Security income, as well as young working people unable to afford sky-
high rents.
Everyone deserves decent and affordable housing, not just those of us who are privileged in various ways. We can all do
something, and I hope enough of us will approve the Affordable Housing GO Bond on the ballot next month to at least start to
address this urgent need for people of all ages in our community.
